My training in Psychology
My name is Semi Asko and the field of Psychology was my first choice. I attended the University of East London {BSc Psychology (Hons)} and continued my studies by doing a postgraduate course in Clinical & Community Psychology {MSc Clinical and Community Psychology} at the same University. My main topic of interest is stress, with my dissertation focusing on the relationship between stress and sleep, and later my postgraduate dissertation on research into workplace stress.
Therapeutic Approaches
I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which was the therapeutic approach I pursued in my master's degree. However, I continue to expand my knowledge not only in this method of treatment, but also in others, focusing my attention on Gestalt Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy.
My Practice in Psychotherapy
My experience in psychotherapy began with my internship at the Hellenic Society of Alzheimer's & Related Disorders, where I continued my collaboration after the end of internship. There, I was a member of the team responsible for conducting neuropsychological assessments to diagnose the patient's condition. In addition, I assisted patients by encouraging them to participate in the memory enhancement programs taking place at the company. Finally, I provided psychological support to family members or caregivers of people with dementia.
Later, I engaged creating and managing an e-course, designing a seminar on Special Learning Disabilities and counseling for parents and teachers.
With the outbreak of COVID-19, I started voluntarily as a therapist at milamou.gr, which provides free counseling to people who need it during this difficult period. At the same time, I started distance psychotherapy via skype and Whatsapp.
